’s-Hertogenbosch and surroundings
An ancient town centre
’s-Hertogenbosch has an ancient city centre full of lively, historic passageways, with the imposing St John’s Cathedral right in the centre. It’s a distinct contrast to the Tramkade, the cultural and creative hotspot in the city. You will find natural greenery a bit further out in Moerputten and Het Bossche Broek, so be sure to go into this area. Discover the Maashorst or the Maasheggen primeval areas, the oldest cultural landscapes in the Netherlands.
Closer to The Noordbrabants Museum
The Noordbrabants Museum is the only place in the south of the Netherlands with original works by the North Brabant painter Vincent van Gogh. The Van Gogh in Brabant permanent exhibition has works including Peasant Woman Digging and Watermill at Kollen. Children can discover the museum in a fun and playful way with the safari treasure hunt. You can go with them in search of hidden animals in the paintings.
Closer to the Binnendieze
How about an exciting heaven and earth boat tour along the Binnendieze? You will go partly under the city while an enthusiastic guide tells you the story of this historic town. The name Binnendieze is the collective Dutch name for the ancient system of waterways within the city walls of Den Bosch, as ‘s-Hertogenbosch is often called.
Closer to de Sint-Janskathedraal
From this spring it will be possible for a period to climb up St John’s Cathedral. At a height of 50 metres you can walk across the top of the roof and around the tower. Not only will you have wonderful views of the town, you will also be able to see the flying buttress statues from close by.
Closer to Kasteel Heeswijk
Young and old are welcome at Heeswijk Castle (Kids proof museum). An exciting treasure hunt will teach the children all about the knights who once roamed here. Climb up the towers, discover the exquisite castle rooms and enjoy the beautiful castle garden. Heeswijk Castle has a turbulent history that goes back to the year 1080. Closer to BillyBird park Hemelrijk
What started as an outdoor lido and beach, BillyBird park Hemelrijk has expanded to become a recreation park for young and old, where children, parents, grandmas and grandpas can enjoy the various themed areas throughout the year. If you want a large climbing course at a low level, try the Ruig. Gold fever will be awakened in the Oervallei (Primeval Valley), while you can visit the Play Circus in the outdoor Kinderland playground.
Closer to Camp Vught National Monument
No wonder that this has been nominated as Kids proof museum in 2020, in Camp Vught National Monument you can take the 'Achter prikkeldraad' (‘Behind barbed wire’) audio tour (for visitors aged 10 to 12) which has been recorded by the children themselves. You will go in search of assignments accompanied by a colourful photo album. Camp Vught National Monument is located in the grounds of the only former SS concentration camp in the Netherlands.
