Visit our unique Van Gogh heritage sites. Step into Vincent's world!

It is not only 's-Hertogenbosch that is giving Vincent van Gogh a great deal of attention the coming months. The heritage sites in Zundert, Etten-Leur and Nuenen are also part of this ambitious project! With extra exhibitions and unique tours and activities.

Van Gogh in Zundert

Vincent van Gogh was born in Zundert on 30 March 1853, and lived there until he was 16 years old. The close family life, the farming village and the vast countryside shaped him as a man, and as an artist.

Tip: The Vincent van GoghHuis in Zundert is currently staging the exhibition 'Suze Robertson & Marenne Welten - Beside Van Gogh'. Suze was a contemporary of Vincent. Her subjects and painting style are similar. It is not surprising that she was considered Van Gogh's female counterpart during her lifetime and beyond.

Tip: The 'Letters in the Protestant Church' activity offers you the opportunity to visit the little Van Gogh Church in Zundert at certain times. This is pretty unique, so take advantage while you can!

Uncovered: Van Gogh’s first art teacher

First photo discovered of Anna Birnie, of Scottish descent, who served as a young governess for eight-year-old Vincent.

Van Gogh in Etten-Leur

In 1881, Vincent van Gogh moved in with his parents in Etten. It is here that he registered his profession as painter for the first time in the local register and got his first studio.

Tip: Until 22 December 2019, the Van Gogh Church in Etten-Leur is staging the exhibition ‘Closer to Van Gogh'. Photographer Marc Boom has an unusual way of reproducing paintings by Van Gogh. Not with a pencil or brush, but with his camera and real people as his subjects. Spot the difference!

Van Gogh in Nuenen

Vincent van Gogh lived and worked in Nuenen from December 1883 to November 1885. Vincent made almost a quarter of his total painting oeuvre in Nuenen, including his first masterpiece: The Potato Eaters.

Tip: In museum Vincentre you can learn everything about how The Potato Eaters was created. Who were those people sitting at Vincent's table?

Tip: Every Wednesday and Sunday until 12 January 2020 there are exclusive guided tours to various special (and hidden) Van Gogh locations in Nuenen, such as Salon Nune Ville. Vincent's love interest, Margot Begemann, lived here. Step into an inspiring world!
